Boys Life is a mentoring program focused on reaching the youth of Hampton Roads. We desire to partner with the public school system in order to facilitate change and growth in the youth in our area. Over the last year we've built a strong relationship with Blair Middle School. Our mentors are now welcomed with open arms for the help and hope they bring to the troubled youth. It is our goal and desire to partner with more schools throughout the area in order for this effort of transformation to spread.
Mentors are recruited from local churches and are screening process. Approved mentors are then partnered with a troubled youth that has been pre-selected by the guidance office at the partnering school. The mentor and student commit to spending one hour a week together. It is through this mentoring relationship that God is able to foster growth and transformation. The growth and transformation transcends the relationship between the mentor and student, there often is a noticeable change within the family of the student and the partnering school.
This last year Koby committed to mentoring a student named Miko. As this relationship grew, Miko's mother noticed a tremendous difference in her child's attitude and academic performance. The school also noticed a tremendous change in the behavioral patterns of Miko. Just recently Koby was married to his wonderful wife Manuela. In attendance at this wedding was both Miko and his mother. We can see how a simple mentoring relationship can foster growth and transformation for both the individuals involved and their families. This same scenario is going to multiply throughout all of Hampton Roads as this grassroots initiative continues to spread.
