Life Skills Empowerment
A program for workplace preparedness providing an
opportunity for new beginnings through discovering one’s significance, purpose, and direction for life. Participants complete an intensive three-day program learning basic skills for entering the workplace, then are paired with a mentor for twelve weeks of follow-up and continuing skills development.
Family Focus ministry team
Offers education, support, and encouragement to single parents and their families. Family Focus Ministry team works in partnership with Gladys Medder, Resident Services Manager of Broad Creek. Sessions providing training, resources, and information on healthcare, life skills, parenting, and safety, etc. are held bi-weekly from September through May.
From December 2005 through May 2006, twenty-nine adults and twenty-seven youth plus participated in:
- Healthy You - Blood Pressure and Fat Analysis Screenings
- Life Skills Training
- Healthy You & Nutrition
- Healthy You – Girls/Boys & Puberty
- Safety & Self Defense
- Relationship Issues
- Healthy You & STDs
These topics and others will be offered beginning fall 2006.
Education, support, and encouragement are also offered to Broad Creek’s single parents and their families through bi-weekly Bible studies held from September through May at the community center or at the home of a community resident.
